De humane osteopathie is afkomstig uit Amerika en werd daar ontwikkeld door dr. Andrew Taylor Still (1828-1917).
Hij stichtte de American School for Osteopathy in 1892.
Hij stichtte de American School for Osteopathy in 1892.
Dr. William Garner Sutherland (1873-1954) heeft de osteopathie van dr. Still uitgebreid met het behandelen rond de schedel (craniale osteopathie).
Nadat de humane osteopathie ook in Europa bekend was geworden is in Frankrijk de osteopathie omgezet naar osteopathie voor dieren.
